Introduction
The Molson-Coors short deck was completed for the SMIF UGA Stock pitch competition. My teammates for the competition were Derek Li (Cornell 29') and Gabriel Kong (UCLA 29').
Our Investment Theses hinged on failing M&A transactions looming on the balance sheet of the debt burdened Molson-Coors, shifting preferences especially among Gen Z consumers and historical failures to improve margins across Mix & Price regions.
To grow revenue for Molson-Coors, we broke down changes in historical revenue figures reported by change in volume (total hL of beer sold), price, and mix (percentage of premium & above premium beer sold. We projected change in volume to fall in line with broader industry trends by 2030, used Federal Reserve Bank CPI data for alcoholic beverages to grow change in price and finally extrapolated historical premiumization rates.
